The Republic of Benin is in west Africa with a population of some 10.5 million people and a capital at Porto-Novoa. Benin is bordered by Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria and Togo with a coastline to the Atlantic.

Benin was originally called Dahomey and became a French colony in 1892 but became an independent country in 1960.

Benin's main export is cotton accounting for 80% of all exports but the country is trying to increase it's appeal to tourists.
