The Republic of Chile is situated in South America with a population of some 17.75 million people and a capital at Santiago, bordered by Argentina, Bolivia and Peru with a coastline to the Pacific Ocean.

In the 1500s Chile became a Spanish colony until 1818 when it became an independent country.

Chile produces 30% of the world's copper which accounts for 60% of it's exports. Chile's agricultural sector has declined in recent years but tourism has increased with around 2 million visitors a year.
