The Republic of Guinea-Bissau is situated in west Africa with a population of some 1.7 million people and a capital city at Bissau. Guinea-Bissau is bordered by Guinea and Senegal with a coastline to the Atlantis Ocean.

Guinea-Bissau was a Portuguese colony but gained independence in 1974.

After years of civil wars Guinea-Bissau is one of the poorest nations in the world with more than two thirds of the population living in poverty.
