The Co-operative Republic of Guyana is situated in the north of South America with a population of some 750,000 people and a capital at Georgetown. Guyana is bordered by Brazil, Suriname and Venezuela with a coastline to the Atlantic Ocean.

Formerly a British colony Guyana gained independence in 1966 but still has English as it's main language and is a member of the Commonwealth.

Guyana's main economic activities are agriculture, mining, forestry and fishing. In the agricultural sector sugar production is the main source of income.
