The Republic of Slovenia is situated in south central Europe with a population of some 2.1 million people and a capital at Ljubljana. Slovenia is bordered by Austria, Croatia, Hungary and Italy with a coastline to the Adriatic Sea.

After the second world war Slovenia became part of Yugoslavia under Soviet Union influence but after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 Slovenia became a separate state in 1991.

Two thirds of the working population are in the service industry with the rest are employed in industry and construction. Slovenia enjoyed a boom up until the recession funded by debt and since 2007 has found it difficult to recover.
